Fyza Shaikh is a medical oncology fellow at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. She is currently working in the laboratory of Cynthia Sears where her primary research is focused on development a comprehensive research program to examine the role of the gut microbiome in tumorigenesis and responses to novel cancer therapeutics. Prior to fellowship, she completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and an MD/PhD at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Her prior research experiences include evaluation of c-Myc and KRAS induction on the polarized acinar structure of breast epithelium, mechanisms of Respiratory Syncytial Virus assembly and budding, c-Met expression in hepatocellular carcinoma, and characterization of PDL-1 expression in EBV-associated gastric cancer.
