Name
FREE WEBINAR: Iron and the gut microbiome: an opportunity for LBPs functional during active gut inflammation
Date & Time
Thursday, November 12, 2020, 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM

Description

During gastrointestinal inflammation, intestinal iron concentrations are high due to bleeding and stress. Most resident gut bacteria can grow under high iron conditions but, lactobacilli and bifidobacteria, species commonly investigated for LBP potential, rarely use iron as a growth factor and are therefore rapidly out-competed in a high-iron environment.

Ferryx has identified a safe and effective strain of Streptococcus thermophilus (FX856) which increases growth rate in response to iron and has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties in standard gastrointestinal disease models. Alongside its efficacy in treating active disease, this strain has an excellent safety profile and a scalable manufacturing process making it an excellent candidate for development into a prescription therapeutic.
