Dr. Shawna McCallin has a PhD in phage microbiology and a diploma of advanced studies in clinical trial management. After working at Nestle Research Center on the largest phage clinical trial to date, she has pursued phages throughout her postdoctoral and business career, and opened her own consultancy for clinical strategy for phage development. She has been instrumental in organizing local frameworks for experimental treatments for patients in therapeutic failure and is passionate about providing treatment to those in need while furthering well-designed clinical trials to provide the solid proof-of-efficacy that is needed to create distributable products. She has been involved in several startup companies aimed at developing validated diagnostic and R&D tools for the phage and microbiome fields. Her most recent career move is taking a management position for a clinical trial against urinary tract infections in Zürich, Switzerland. She currently is an editorial board member of the scientific journal PHAGE and a board member for the International Society of Viruses of Microbes (ISVM).
